Located in the Latin Quarter, this spot dishes out a Thanksgiving menu that's as authentic as it gets this side of the Atlantic. Think golden-brown turkey, stuffing that tastes like it's straight from Grandma's kitchen, and of course, pumpkin pie that'll make you want to skip the turkey altogether. It's like a little slice of the States right in the middle of Paris.

For something a bit more upscale, Verjus, near Palais Royal, offers a Thanksgiving meal that's sure to impress. Square Marcel-Bleustein-Blanchet

Let’s uncover the tranquil beauty of Square Marcel-Bleustein-Blanchet, a lesser-known sanctuary tucked away in the vibrant Montmartre district. This quaint square, often overlooked by the casual visitor, offers a peaceful respite from the bustling tourist paths and provides some of the most stunning views of the iconic SacrĂ©-CƓur.

Nestled just a stone's throw away from the famous Place du Tertre, Square Marcel-Bleustein-Blanchet is like stumbling upon a secret garden. The square is beautifully landscaped, with lush greenery and benches perfectly placed for quiet contemplation or simply enjoying a moment of solitude. The gentle rustle of leaves and the soft chirping of birds create a soothing ambiance, starkly contrasting the lively streets beyond its borders.

ART & LITERATURE
Artisanal Crafts of Paris: The Magic of Christmas Markets

Paris, in its winter splendor, welcomes the festive season with open arms, and its Christmas markets are a testament to the city's vibrant artisanal culture. These markets, each with their unique charm, are not just shopping destinations but a celebration of local craftsmanship and holiday spirit.

The Tuileries Garden Christmas Market, set against the majestic backdrop of the Louvre, transforms the former royal gardens into a festive wonderland. Amidst the twinkling lights and festive stalls, artisans from across Paris and beyond showcase their talents. Here, visitors can find exquisite hand-blown glass ornaments, meticulously crafted jewelry, and an array of artisanal goods that echo the rich artistic heritage of Paris.

In the artistic enclave of Montmartre, the Christmas Market offers a different vibe. It's a place where the artistic spirit of the area is palpable, with local painters and sculptors displaying their works. Each piece here tells a story, capturing the unique essence of Montmartre, making it an ideal spot for finding that one-of-a-kind gift.

The Saint-Germain-des-Prés Christmas Market stands out for its focus on traditional Parisian crafts. Strolling through this market, visitors are enveloped in the history of one of Paris's most historic districts. The market brims with handmade soaps, candles, and bespoke leather goods, showcasing the timeless skills of Parisian artisans.

Lastly, the Notre-Dame Christmas Market offers a quaint and heartwarming experience. Nestled near the iconic cathedral, this market is a symbol of Paris’s resilience. Its stalls, though fewer in number, offer a diverse range of handcrafted items, from intricate woodwork to artisanal food products, making it a hidden gem for those seeking authentic Parisian craftsmanship.

Each of these Christmas markets in Paris not only provides a festive shopping experience but also brings to life the city’s enduring love for art and tradition. They are a warm invitation to explore and partake in the joyous spirit of the Parisian holiday season, surrounded by the creativity and passion of its local artisans.

A PEEK INTO HISTORY
The Ghosts of Notre Dame: Echoes of Winter’s Past

As the chill of winter descends on Paris, the historic Notre Dame Cathedral, with its frost-kissed spires and ancient walls, becomes a portal to bygone eras. Each stone and stained-glass window holds echoes of winters past, especially during the holiday season, a time steeped in tradition and festivity.

Imagine the cathedral in the Middle Ages, a beacon of warmth and faith in the heart of medieval Paris. Picture a scene from a 14th-century winter: the Seine is frozen solid, a rare spectacle, and the townsfolk gather in the shadow of Notre Dame. Inside, the air is filled with the scent of burning candles and the sound of Gregorian chants, providing solace and warmth against the biting cold outside.

Fast forward to the 16th century, during the reign of Louis XIV. Notre Dame transforms for Christmas, its gothic interior adorned with garlands and candles. The midnight Mass is a grand affair, attended by nobles and commoners alike, all captivated by the cathedral's splendor and the occasion's solemnity.

Then, there's the winter of 1804, a pivotal moment in French history. Notre Dame, neglected and damaged during the French Revolution, plays host to Napoleon Bonaparte's coronation as Emperor. The cathedral is rejuvenated during winter, symbolizing a new era for Notre Dame and France.

These historical vignettes offer glimpses into the enduring role of Notre Dame in Paris's winter narrative. From its earliest days to the present, the cathedral has been a centerpiece of Parisian life, witnessing the city's evolution and the myriad ways Parisians have celebrated the holiday season through the centuries.

Even now, as restoration efforts continue following the devastating fire, the spirit of Notre Dame remains indomitable during winter. It's a reminder of the cathedral's timeless resonance, a place where the ghosts of Christmases long past still wander, and the anticipation of future celebrations lingers in the air.

Paris for the Holidays: A Love Affair with the City of Lights

Galeries Lafayette

There's something undeniably enchanting about Paris around Christmas, a charm that captures the heart and refuses to let go. As someone deeply smitten with this city, I find the festive season here not just charming but absolutely magical.

The Christmas markets of Paris, each a twinkling wonderland, are a particular delight. Strolling through these festive markets is like walking in a dream, with the air filled with the scent of mulled wine and the sound of holiday cheer. Each market, from the picturesque Notre Dame to the vibrant Tuileries Garden, offers a unique experience, a blend of traditional crafts, delicious treats, and a festive ambiance that's quintessentially Parisian.

One of my favorite holiday rituals in Paris is savoring a cup of chocolat chaud in a cozy café. This isn't just any hot chocolate; it's a rich, decadent drink that warms you to the core, perfect for those chilly Parisian days. There's a particular pleasure in finding refuge from the winter cold in a quaint café, watching the city bustle by, chocolate in hand.

And then, there's the giant Christmas tree in Galeries Lafayette. This isn't merely a holiday decoration; it's an annual spectacle, a marvel that never fails to leave me in awe. The tree, towering and splendidly adorned, set against the stunning backdrop of the store's Art Nouveau dome, is a sight to behold.

But perhaps what I love most about Paris during Christmas is the window decorations. The city's department stores transform their displays into miniature worlds of wonder, each telling a story, each a work of art. There's a sense of childlike wonder in pressing your nose against the glass and getting lost in these intricate, festive scenes.

Paris at Christmas time is a city transformed. It's a place where the magic of the season is palpable in every street corner, every light display, every steaming cup of chocolat chaud. It's a time when the city not only embraces the joy and peace of the holiday season but also radiates it, enveloping locals and visitors alike in its festive embrace. This is why I love Paris around Christmas – it's a time of beauty, joy, and an unending love affair with the City of Lights.

FRENCH SONG OF THE WEEK
"Douce France" by Charles Trenet

"Douce France" by Charles Trenet is a melodious throwback to an older, golden era of French music that I find particularly enchanting. This classic chanson, with its tender lyrics and gentle melody, captures a deep sense of nostalgia and love for the French way of life. Trenet's voice, carrying both warmth and a hint of wistfulness, takes us on a journey through the picturesque landscapes and the cherished memories of France. It's a song that resonates with the timeless charm of the nation, making it a perfect accompaniment to a reflective, cozy evening, or a leisurely stroll through the historic streets of Paris. "Douce France" is more than just a melody; it's a heartfelt homage to the beauty and spirit of France.
